Citizens of Detroit have an opportunity to vote on an advisory ballot issue to reopen the Belle Isle Aquarium at the August 2 primary. What are people hearing about this out in the community, if anything? |

Other than this forum, I have not seen or heard anything about this ballot proposal if it weren't for this website. Unfortunately, I'm not a city resident so I can't vote on this issue. |

Detroit citizens and politicians know there are bigger issues to address in the city than reopening the aquarium. The ballot proposal will probably pass, but it will be ignored by elected officials. Just like the bell isle zoo ballat proposal was ignored for budget reasons, after it received overwelming support by city residents. Don't get your hopes up |

Yes, Anonymous there are bigger issues, but if donors can be found to support the Aquarium like has been done for the DIA and the Historical Museum then the Aquarium should be given the same opportunity to operate for the Citizens of Detroit. The ballot outcome could give an indication of citizen support for their Aquarium and give incentive for private funders. |

88% yes vote by Detroiters for opening the Aquarium. Has any other ballot issue reached those proportions? Just curious. |

Yes, another ballot issue reached those proportions near 5 years ago. It was to re-open the Belle Isle Zoo. And what happened of it? Nothing, the Belle Isle Zoo still remains closed to the public to this day, with no plans for reopening.
So what will this ballot issue do? Nothing, the Belle Isle Aquarium is closed and will remain so with nothing to look forward to except rot and decay. |
