John Slick burns the midnight oil making 'Fish-Sticks' for FOBIA

I and a number of other artists are willing
to visit various grade/intermediate schools in the
metropolitan Detroit area and build zoo fish "support"
signs. (FISH STICKS) . These signs will be the same or
similar to the ones we constructed for the Thursday
gathering at the aquarium and as seen on FOX NEWS,
channel 2, Detroit. In the case that we have over
whelming response many other Metropolitan Detroit
artists may conduct the FISH STICK workshops.

The school program is aimed at bringing awareness
about the importance of the aquarium to the schools.
There will be a 100 dollar visiting artist's fee per
visit and the cost of materials, not including paint.
The typical material cost will be $1.00 per sign. The
costs will be borne by the participating schools,
funded by their special activities budget or by
individual patron (PTA) of the particular school.
The students with the supervision of their
"activities/art" teachers and PTA parents will
construct the precut prime painted signs and paint
them according to the child's whim and fancy. The
children can use any marking medium: crayons, poster
paint, paper collage to decorate their very own fish.
There will be one feature about the fish that will
distinguish one school of fish from another school or
organization: i.e. a red tail, a blue nose or a orange
fin. The distinguishing feature will be determined by
the teachers and me.

The aim is to encourage a broad support for the
continuation of the Belle Isle Aquarium beyond the
proposed termination date. Teachers and parents will
be encouraged to arrange and schedule a field trip to
the Aquarium as soon as possible and the students will
be encouraged to bring their unique (FISH STICKS)
school of fish as a graphic and fun sign of support.
However, for security reasons the children cannot take
the FISH STICKS into the Aquarium. A trip to the
Aquarium and family photo with their "FISH STICKS" in
front of the Aquarium would be a memorable family
portrait.

I believe that corporate support from a variety of
builders suppliers may reduce the school's cost of
tools and materials necessary to make the "artzoofish"
project a rewarding event in the lives of children,
teachers and the community alike. But this is a public
"grass-roots movement" and large national
corporations are hesitant to fund such
"private/public" endeavors.

Perhaps there are Metropolitan Detroit hardware and
lumber companies which are civic minded and are able
to respond more quickly to this urgent situation. Any
support will be gratefully and publicly acknowledged.
A astute public relations department of such a company
would easily see the GOOD WILL advertising benefits of
such support.

Parents/Teachers/Schools/Children's Groups wishing to
participate should DIRECTLY contact
zoofish<artzoofish@yahoo.com>. Please DIRECTLY email
