Annual Meeting, Feb. 28th 2006

"...Show me $800,000 a year for four years and the Aquarium will reopen"

Charles Beckham,
Head of Detroit Parks & Recreation

The Annual meeting gave FOBIA a chance stand back, take stock of  the past and see where we are going. We invited the head of Detroit Parks and Recreation, Mr. Charles  Beckham, so he could inform us what is needed to get the Aquarium up and running. During the ensuing conversations, Mr. Beckham agreed to meet with Keith Tianen so he can expand on his proposal for funding Belle Isle and the Aquarium.
Mr. Beckham suggested we needed an extensive survey of the Aquarium and our  treasurer Charlie Bristol, being an architect, offered to get a team together and check  out the building.
If Mr. Beckham expected our annual meeting to consist of dewey-eyed idealists with no real grasp of the what is needed to run an aquarium, it is quite possible that he  went away with some appreciation of our organization.
For our part, we applaud Mr. Beckham for taking the time and trouble to listen to us  and look forward to working with him in the future.
