Aquarium down - but not out

Despite pleas and offers of help and money from many quarters, including a furtive probe from the Henry Ford Company, Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has doggedly pursued the shuttering of 101 year old Belle Isle Aquarium.

FOBIA members will be holding a candle vigil for the Aquarium tonight at 6:00PM and will continue to do so every month on this day up to the City elections.

The vigil is not a farewell to the Belle Isle Aquarium. It is a reminder to everyone that we fully intend to see the it restored and re-opened with the advent of a new City administration, which may have the wisdom and will to let the community help restore the Aquarium to existence.
