Open letter:

Dear Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick,

Hope this day find you well.

I am writing to inform you that you are receiving bad advice.
Shutting down the Belle Isle Aquarium will cause our city to lose international prestige, not to mention considerable negative reaction by the citizenry, as evidenced here:
http://belleisleaquarium.com/citizen_comments.htm

Even though Zoo director Ron Kagan has not allocated any observable funds to advertise this Detroit jewel, the Aquarium continues to pull in thousands of people every year.
Apparently, During his tenure as Zoo Director, Mr. Kagan's visits to the aquarium can be measured on one hand. His decision to deny any kind of advertising budget could only guarantee that attendance would suffer. The Aquarium presence on the Zoo's website was at best hidden and now appears to be gone altogether.
One could infer that Mr. Kagan does not care for the Belle Isle Aquarium, in which case he has been a poor choice as its custodian.

It would not be amiss for you to visit the Belle Isle Aquarium before you make this ill-conceived move. I gather you have been too busy to visit the Aquarium during your tenure as mayor. Perhaps this would be a good time.

Please, I urge you to reconsider the closure of the belle Isle Aquarium.

Sincerely,

Stephen Goodfellow
